Recently, I had a fruitful conversation with one of Cubicost user who works in a state-owned contractor company in Indonesia. The conversation was about his company practice when dealing with submission of progress claim to owner of the project and from his company subcontractors or foreman.

He mentioned to me that his company practice still adopts basic manual ways by utilizing spreadsheet and print-out demarcation drawing for progress claim submission. This is also probably the common practice in Indonesia as well.

With the current practice, they will use the printout Shop Drawing and a pen marker to mark areas that have been constructed, and then they will use spreadsheet to submit quantity of work done whilst comparing to actual BQ.

However, the problem with this kind of submission is no direct link exists between the marked shop drawing and the spreadsheet, thus the construction stakeholders (owner representatives, consultant and contractor) will require to have a clarification meeting for the submission, and they will verify contractor progress claim submission.

Besides, it is difficult to determine if a project progress has achieved a certain percentage number in precise ways. All this-time percentages of progress are determined by actual physical works based on site examination and will be combined with shop drawing and BQs. Sometimes the perception of number of percentages is subjective and different among stakeholders.

All you need to do is to mark your designated area horizontally or vertically using progress claim based on work done. Once you mark the area and calculate the quantities, later you can display the corresponding quantity summary in View Quantity by Category section, where you can break down quantity based on marked area precisely.

With the Glodon Cubicost intelligent features, you can track quantity calculated to each individual entity, and check the formula of calculation, the deduction with other elements, or the arrangement between progress claims, so that your submission won’t have any repeated quantity from entities that have already been submitted in earlier progress claims.

Quantity obtained in Cubicost TAS can be linked with BQ imported in Cubicost TBQ, where you can generate BQ submission, save and keep tracking any changes applied to the BQ for bill items, quantities, even the pricing.

Good to know that Cubicost is able to handle progress claims, achieving higher efficiency by generating intuitive models, along with clearly displayed areas and precisely calculated quantities.

Summary

Progress claim is one of the most important activities in the Construction Project Lifecycle, where the contractor submits the progress of the work that have been completed to get payment from the project owner, by submitting supporting documents and obtaining the owner’s approval.

With Cubicost, you can generate model of your progress claim and track your quantity intelligently for individual entities.
