Go Digital Leadership Forum – 5D BIM Cost Management and Singapore BIM QS Contest Awards Ceremony was held on the 11th Oct 2019.
Go Digital Leadership Forum - 5D BIM Cost Management, co-organized by Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers (SISV) hosted and assembled at the Regent Hotel Singapore on the 11th Oct 2019, received over 160 business leaders and experts who are the representatives from 58 leading organizations in the AEC industry.
The purpose of this forum is to raise awareness and build competency in using BIM technology in Singapore, particularly for the QS profession during their Quantification and Cost Management workflow. We aim for this forum to serve as a platform for the dynamic exchange of ideas, knowledge, experience and expertise of going digital and implementing digital solutions. Experts include developer, consultant, contractor and researchers presented a great diversity of encaptivating speech on the topic of embracing BIM technology in the Construction Project Life Cycle to fully capture the latest challenges, insights and digital solutions in construction field.
To commence the forum, Mr. Andy Zhang - Managing Director of Glodon Singapore gave his welcome remarks followed by highlights of Singapore BIM QS Contest 2019. Last but not least, he reminded us that achieving true transformation requires re-thinking of the business needs, and adopt the right digital solutions to achieve the best outcomes.
The opening speech was held with the participation of Mr. Khoo Sze Boon - President of Singapore Institution of Surveyors and Valuers (SISV) QS Division. He welcomed the attendees and delivered his opening message on the importance of Digital Construction in the new era. He also discussed the opportunities arising from the application of the emerging new technologies in the AEC industry.
Speaking at the forum, the first Keynote speaker Mr. Muhd Khalil - BIM Manager of Boustead Singapore shared his thoughts and experience on Digital Transformation Journey for Building Life-cycle. He mapped out a great vision of digital solution that integrates different technologies throughout the whole project life-cycle, and the impact it can have in helping to shape the industry.
Mr. Silas Loh - Joint Managing Partner of RLB in Singapore highlighted that the construction industry in major cities across the world is accepting BIM as an evolutionary tool for better coordinated design that will lead to higher quality and productive construction. To achieve the potentials that BIM promises, designers and builders are now more willing to collaborate and share their BIM models.
Dr. Evelyn Teo - Associate Professor of National University of Singapore, she delivered her topic on Redefining Square One: Future Directions in BIM-Cost Teaching and Research. She highlighted that through experiential learning programme enabled students to use technology to create the SMART Virtual Towns and further develop their capabilities to meet the future industry needs.
Mr. Tushar Nath - Digital Innovation Officer of Soilbuild Construction further shared the fact that BIM is not just implementing and accumulating different individual standalone software to primarily tackle with one specific issue, but re-thinking BIM through the whole project life-cycle of the acquired project and achieve the final goal of Integrated Digital Delivery.
The last keynote speaker on the stage was Mr. Justin Bong - Chief Technical Engineer and Senior Product Expert of Glodon International presented his points on the Benefits of 5D BIM in Construction Cost and Data Management. Mr. Justin presented his paper, knowledge and experiences on the path to digital construction and values of 5D BIM for the AEC industry. He ended his speech with one sentence conclusion “Embracing New Technologies and Make Everything Count.”
To kick-start the BIM Contest Awards Ceremony, a video was aired to walk through the audience on the 1st Singapore BIM QS Contest which participated by 42 teams from 30 organizations. Mr. Khoo Sze Boon and Mr. Andy Zhang sent their congratulations to all the contestants and presented the awards to the Top 10 Winning teams.
It was a truly fantastic journey for all Singapore BIM QS Contest 2019 participants, each of which has shown their efforts and great achievements in the BIM application in the industry. Mr. Andy Zhang added that “Despite the tight schedule of the competition, the submissions from all the participating teams are of high quality. Glodon is looking forward to see all contestants again in the BIM QS Contest 2020!”
It is the trans-formative time for the built environment sector with more firms are adopting advanced construction technologies and innovating ways to increase quality and efficiency in building projects.
